The Four Oaks Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Johnston Now as July’s Business of the Month. Johnston Now was nominated for Business of the Month in recognition of their sold out inaugural Johnston Now Honors event. Johnston Now Honors is a countywide awards celebration honoring local heroes, and the winners received a trophy and a feature profile in the July edition of Johnston Now magazine.
“Johnston Now was created to shine a spotlight on positive things happening in our county,” Shanna Capps, Johnston Now general manager, said. “This event was us taking that mission one step farther and truly recognizing the efforts of heroes in our own back yard. We are humbled to have brought together such an inspiring group of people to recognize their efforts.”
Johnston Now Honors recognized citizens all over Johnston County including Morgan Lassiter, a Four Oaks resident, who was awarded the Rising Star award. Lassiter recently graduated in the top 10 percent of her class at South Johnston High School. She plans to attend Campbell University, where she plans to major in Biology Pre-Physical Therapy with an eye on becoming a Physical Therapist. She also volunteers her time in the kindergarten and first-grade classrooms at Four Oaks Elementary, works with the Miracle League and Special Olympics and is a member of the National Honor Society, Trojan Ambassadors, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Spanish Honor Society.
Also recognized was Donna Bailey-Taylor for the Spirit of the County award. Bailey-Taylor is the longtime president and CEO of the Johnston County Visitors Bureau. Last year, that organization awarded more than $225,000 in capital grants for projects around the county — all funded by tourism dollars. The Johnston County Visitors Bureau are also active members and sponsors of the Four Oaks Chamber of Commerce. Baily-Taylor has also served on boards for Howell Woods, Ava Gardner Museum, Bentonville Battlefield, Clayton Piano Festival, Tobacco Farm Life Museum and the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium.
“The Four Oaks Chamber is honored to recognize the work of Johnston Now,” states Amber England, Chamber Executive Director. “The work they are doing through their magazine and Johnston Now Honors highlights the best of our town and our county. Having this ongoing, positive spotlight is a major asset for our entire business community.”
