Auxiliary Awards Scholarships
The Four Oaks American Legion Auxiliary Unit 346 awarded $500 scholarships to three students:Layla Sauls, Katie Lee, and Kendall Britt.
Layla Sauls is a senior at South Johnston High School. Her parents are Boyd and Sheryl Sauls. Her grandfather, Dennis Lee, is an Army veteran and her grandmother, Scarlett Lee, is a member of the Auxiliary. Layla is a junior member of the Auxiliary. She is also a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club. She placed 1 st in the state in the Fashion Design Competition for the past two years. She was Miss South Johnston in the 2023-2024 school year. She was a member of the South Johnston golf team. She earned four Presidential Volunteer Service awards. Her GPA is 4.38.
She will be attending NC State in the fall to study Fashion and Textile Management: Brand Management and Marketing.
Katie Lee is a senior at South Johnston High School. Her parents are Ashley and Vanecia Lee. Her grandfather, Dennis Lee, is an Army veteran and her grandmother, Scarlett Lee, is a member of the Auxiliary. Katie is a Junior member of the Auxiliary. She received the academic all-conference award in women’s tennis for two years. She is co-editor of the Yearbook and a Trojan Ambassador. She will be attending Johnston Community College and then transferring East Carolina University to major in Child Life and Business.
Kendall Britt is a senior at Fuquay-Varina High School. Her parents are Thomas and Pam Britt. Her grandparents are Tom and Eleanor Britt who are active in the Four Oaks American Legion Post and Auxiliary. She is on the swim team for the high School. She does gymnastics and she is a member of the Key Club. She helps transport her other grandparents, Paul and Fran Carrier, since they no longer drive.
She will attend Wake Tech and transfer to East Carolina University to pursue a degree in nursing.

Essay Winner in State Competition
The Four Oaks American Legion Auxiliary Unit 346 sponsored the Americanism essay contest. The title was: “What does freedom mean to me?” Four Oaks Elementary student, Addison Wilkinson, completed an essay for competition at the local level. She was awarded a monetary gift and a certificate from the Auxiliary on June 3, 2024, at the third-grade awards program. Her essay was sent to the North Carolina
